At ISS, we deliberately positioned ourselves as a premium product. There was a public-domain version of security scanning software available for free called Satan. Our belief was that large organizations, especially financial institutions, would need a zero tolerance for security breaches and would be willing to pay a premium price for a premium product that scanned for all security issues. We weren’t selling on the basis of our individual features. Rather, we concentrated on the fact that it takes only one security hole to jeopardize all the information stored within an organization’s computers.
